What I got out of the Retrieve Course by Brooke Christensen (2020)

First of all, I am sorry I'm so late for this exam. I don't know why I didn't see it come through my email. This RC has been transformational to me because it has helped me with my leadership skills. It helped me be more decisive in my decisions. I have always felt insecure in the choices I make. Kimber needs me to lead her confidently with precise decision-making skills. This was mentally exhausting for me to be so bold, confident, and to take the lead. However, working against my nature to help her have success has brought new confidence to me that has improved how I lead in my home, church, and community. I'm not afraid of taking the lead and doing what is needed to be done anymore. The RC course has been transformational for Kimber because she now understands who is in charge. She knows who is in charge and she enjoys having someone else take the lead. She enjoys the work. She is a happier dog with a noticeable demeanor change. I no longer have to worry about her behavior around other dogs and people. I know her strengths and weaknesses and can accept her where she is and know how to move forward with her weaknesses. This RC is not for the faint of heart but I would recommend it to anyone wanting to better themselves and their dog. Thank you Roxanne for your confidence, vision, and honesty with Kimber and me. Thank you for giving my wild dog a chance. You saw the possibilities for us. When I met you Kimber and I was at a crossroad where Kimber either made progress or we made the painful decision to give her away. At that time she was not stable enough to be in a family with children. My vet told me to give her away. He told me I wasn't capable of training such a complex dog. I asked for recommendations for trainers anyways. He recommended me to Wasatch Retrieve where I could find trainers qualified in training working dogs. He told me if I did train her it would be so much work he didn't know if it would be worth it. Well, he was right it was a lot of work but he was wrong in thinking that it wouldn't be worth it.
