ADT University Courses

Basic Dog Training Foundation Class – $200

Prerequisites:
·         Must be at least 18 years old.
·         Dog must have completed the Applewoods Dog Training Retrieve Class OR have successfully earned the Companion Dog (CD) and Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) titles
·         Applicant will be required to demonstrate proficiency in handling their own dog.

20 total hours of instruction to include:
·         An overview of what is involved in being a successful dog trainer
·         10 hours of hands-on dog training work
·         5 hours of grounds maintenance training
·         2.5 hours exploring the various different approaches to dog training
·         2.5 hours of dog training history, breed recognition, & health issues than can affect dog behavior


Daycare and Pack Management Professional – $300

Prerequisites:
·         Must have successfully completed the Basic Dog Training Foundation Class

120 total hours of instruction
·         Working and learning from and with the Applewoods Dog Training pack. This pack is only available weekdays for this learning
·         Learn:
·         How to read dogs
·         How to head off any problems before the average person even realizes there is about to be a problem
·        How to gain the dogs’ respect so they follow you willingly around our training yard
·         What commands work best and when to use them
·         How to tell when a dog is tired, just cranky or actually getting sick
·         Learn how to talk to the dog owners and help them understand what their dog has learned
·         How to effectively manage a pack of dogs off-leash


Hobby Dog Training Instructor

The very first step is to sign up for our Basic Dog Training Foundation (BDTF) class. In the BDTF class you will study either part-time of full-time under the direct supervision of a Journeyman II Professional Trainer. This is a 20 hour program.



Hobby Basic Dog Training Foundation Class – $200

·         Must be at least 18 years old.

Hobby Assistant

Basic Requirements:
·         Graduate of 10 week Novice Class OR all 3 group classes
·         Graduate of 16 week Retrieve Class
·         Regular attendance of Continued Education Classes


Hobby Instructor Level 1

Basic Requirements:
·         Completion of Hobby Assistant Level requirements

Instructor Requirements:
·         Earn AKC CGC title
·         Earn AKC CD title
·         100 hours of group class observation


Hobby Instructor Level 2

Basic Requirements:
·         Completion of Hobby Instructor Level 1 requirements

Instructor Requirements:
·         Earn AKC CDX title
·         Assistant in Retrieve Class
·         Assistant in Elementary and Middle School Classes for 2 Years


Hobby Instructor Level 3

Basic Requirements:
·         Completion of Instructor Level 2 requirements

Instructor Requirements:
·         Earn AKC UD title
·         Teach Elementary and Middle School Classes for 3 Years
·         Become AKC CGC Evaluator


Professional Dog Trainer

Professional Apprentice 1 – $400
Prerequisites:
·         Must be at least 18 years old and have your own dog.

300 total hours of instruction to include:
·         200+ hours of Dog Training Instruction
·         Graduation from the Applewoods 10 week Novice Class OR
·         Graduation from the 3 Applewoods group classes
·         Instruction on earning the AKC Canine Good Citizen Title with your dog
·         Instruction on earning the AKC Companion Dog Obedience Title with your dog
·         40+ hours of Hands-on Instruction
·         20 hours of Hands-on training work
·         10 hours of exploring various approaches to dog training
·         5 hours of grounds maintenance training
·         5 hours of dog training history, breed recognition, and health issues that can affect dog behavior
·         60+ hours of Observation Instruction
·         30 hours watching and learning how to manage a dog pack
·         15 hours observing and participating in obedience matches/trials
·         15 hours observing breed ring competitions
·         2 hours observing 3 different breeds of dogs being professionally groomed
·         Successfully earn the AKC Canine Good Citizen Title with your dog
·         Successfully earn the AKC Canine Good Citizen Advanced Title with your dog
·         Successfully earn the AKC Companion Dog Title with your dog


Professional Apprentice 2 – $1000

Prerequisites:
·         Completion of Professional Apprentice 1
·         600 total hours of instruction to include:
·         400+ hours of Dog Training Instruction
·         100 hours assisting Journeyman 1 or Journeyman 2 in group classes and/or being demo person for Private Lessons
·         20 hours learning safety for trainer, owner, and dogs
·         Graduate from the Retrieve Class with your own dog
·         Instruction on earning the AKC Companion Dog Excellent Obedience Title with your dog
·         Instruction on earning AKC CD and CDX Obedience Titles on a student’s dog
·         100+ hours of Hands-on Instruction
·         60 hours studying human behavior and how it affects dog training
·         20 hours of Hands-on dog training work
·         10 hours of grounds maintenance training
·         10 hours of dog training history, breed recognition, and health issues that can affect dog behavior
·         100+ hours of Observation Instruction
·         40 hours watching and learning how to manage a dog pack
·         55 hours observing and participating in obedience matches/trials
·        2.5 hours observing breed ring competitions
·         2.5 hours observing 3 different breeds of dogs being professionally groomed
·         Successfully earn the AKC CDX Title with your dog
·         Successfully earn the AKC CD and CDX Title with a student’s dog


Professional Journeyman 1 – $1500

Prerequisites:
·         Completion of Professional Apprentice 2

1000 additional hours of instruction to include:
·         400+ hours of Dog Training Instruction
·         This instruction includes training at least 3 different dogs of 3 different breeds for a minimum of 40 hours with specific goals as set by the Master Trainer
·         Assist as demo team for all classes
·         100+ hours of Hands-on Instruction
·         40 hours of Hands-on training work
·         10 hours of exploring various approaches to dog training
·         40 hours of grounds maintenance training
·         10 hours of dog training history, breed recognition, and health issues that can affect dog behavior
·         200+ hours of Observation Instruction
·         70 hours watching and learning how to manage a dog pack
·         20 hours learning safety for trainer, owner, and dogs
·         60 hours observing and participating in obedience matches/trials
·         10 hours volunteering for matches and trials
·         40 hours observing Private Lessons
·         300+ hours of In Class Teaching
·         200 hours of teaching group classes
·         80 hours of teaching private lessons
·         20 hours of teaching 1 on 1 tutor sessions
·         Must assist in Retrieve Class
·         Must attend Utility Class
·         Successfully earn the AKC Utility Dog Title with your dog


Professional Journeyman II – $2500

Prerequisites:
·         Completion of Professional Journeyman 1

640 additional hours of instruction to include:
·         100+ hours of Dog Training Instruction
·         This instruction includes training at least 3 different dogs of 3 different breeds for a minimum of 30 hours with specific goals as set by the Master Trainer
·         Assist as demo team for all classes
·         100+ hours of Hands-on Instruction
·         50 hours of Hands-on training work
·         10 hours of Service Dog Training skills
·         30 hours of Syllabus and Training Program development
·         10 hours of dog training history, breed recognition, and health issues that can affect dog behavior
·         100+ hours of Observation Instruction
·         10 hours learning safety for trainer, owner, and dogs
·         20 hours observing and participating in obedience matches/trials
·         10 hours volunteering for matches and trials
·         40 hours observing Private Lessons
·         340+ hours of In Class Teaching
