AND here's Redd doing Scent Discrimination, for Kim (not me), and being successful at finding dropped prescription glasses.

  1. Scent Discrimination is taught after a dog is well versed in generalizing "Fetch". Pree, Boaz and Redd know "Fetch" and will "Fetch" anything. Pree and Boaz have done the formal "Fetch-find mine" scent discrimination training.

Redd has NOT done the formal "Fetch-find mine", but she has done the informal scent discrimination with me since a puppy. I teach ALL my puppies to "Find-mine" with deliberately dropped items on a trial like a glove or keys or a remote or scarf or hat, etc.

Well, Redd ROCKED it today as all 3 dogs were formally given Kim's scent (not mine) and send to "Fetch-Find mine". Redd the fastest dog in the Pack right now and launched out confidently to search for her new assignment, finding 'something' with Kim's scent on the item on the ground. MAN, she nailed it as went past the dropped glasses, I saw her catch the scent cone as she spun around and then she picked up those glasses carefully. Yes, they were dog mouth slimed, BUT she has a soft mouth and so did not damage Kim's glasses.

    SO PROUD OF REDD!

  2. This was reenactment of course. When she found them the first time, we gave all three the sent and command. We started backtracking our trail she ran ahead and before we got to the first wash here she came with my glasses! I was so relieved. She is the great heroine of the day. I so want to teach Kara that.
